Various forms of Smart Connected Device have been introduced, ever since the appearance of smart phones. SCD (Smart Connected Device) is a self-operating system that connects to internet and other devices. Tablet PCs, smart watches, and smart TVs are the examples of SCD.
The spread of Individualized Smart Devices through advance of digital technology has triggered a change in service configuration. By utilizing smart devices, the service experience was no longer restricted by physical limitations but widened with greater mobility for users. Following the changes, new types of service appeared on the market, like OnDemand, O2O, Sharing Economy, and etc. Most of these services substantially operates using SC. This research collectively called services like O2O, OnDemand, and Sharing Economy as SCD-oriented services.
SCD oriented services have distinct features from existing services. In terms of flow of service, service providers, service experience space and more in many other aspects, the differences occur. Now is the time to concern about designs for these changing forms of service in various point of view.
Thus, I, the author of this research, progressed on a thesis focusing on prototyping which is regarded as a necessary step for verification and improvement of these SCD-oriented services.
Difficulties were found in verification and validation of the SCD-oriented services through an existing prototyping method. Thus, this research suggested a new SCD prototyping that allows overall improvements of UI used in service devices. After, by selecting and applying to cases applicable to SCD prototyping, problems derived from using the existing UI prototyping were corrected and improvements were achieved. Finally, consistency, continuity, and complementarity among various devices were verifiable.
As the author of this research, I anticipate the SCD prototyping to become an effective tool to confirm problems and discuss improvements for SCD-oriented services.
