공감의 도덕적 가능성을 통해 본 스포츠 윤리 실천 모색 - 마사 누스바움의 감정론을 중심으로 - = Seeking Practices of Sport Ethics through Moral Possibilities of Compassion - Focused on Martha Nussbaum’s Theory of Emotions -

국문 초록 (Abstract)

이 연구는 마사 누스바움(Martha Nussbaum)의 도덕 감정론의 핵심인 공감(compassion)에 주목하며, 공감을 통해 현대 스포츠의 윤리적 실천을 위한 가능성을 모색하였다. 누스바움은 공감을 윤리적 고려의 대상으로 파악한다. 그 이유는 감정을 인지주의 관점으로 접근하였기 때문이다. 단순히 감정을 어떤 생리적 수준을 반영하는 감각이나 느낌으로만 여기는 비인지주의 관점이 아닌 ‘대상성’, ‘방향성’, ‘믿음’, ‘공동추론’ 이라는 감정의 인지적 요소를 근거로 감정을 도덕적 실천을 위한 요소로 간주하며, 특히 공감을 도덕적 판단의 핵심으로 부각한다. 공감을 스포츠 윤리실천의 대안으로써 판단한, 또 하나의 근거는 상대를 적이 아닌 존중의 대상으로 규정하는 스포츠맨십의 성격과 일치하기 때문이다. 공감이 스포츠의 윤리적 실천을 위한 요건을 갖추기 위해서는 누구나 동의할 만한 도덕적 동기를 제시해야 한다. 누스바움은 그것을 인간의 ‘공통된 본성(essentialism)’인 ‘상처받기 쉬운 연약함(vulnerability)’을 제시하며, 이 본성을 깨닫게 될 때 공감이 가능하다. 그리고 이러한 특징은 감정의 교육을 통해 동기화될 수 있으며, 상대의 아픔을 간접적으로 체험할 수 있는 프로그램은 도덕적 상상력을 줄 수 있기에, 스포츠 윤리 교육의 일환으로서 강구해야 한다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

This study explores the possibilities of practicing modern sport ethics focusing on compassion, which is the core of Martha Nussbaum’s theory of emotions. Nussbaum sees compassion as an object of ethical consideration as she approaches emotions from a cognitive perspective. Emotions are treated as a component of moral practices based on cognitive aspects of emotions, such as ‘objectivity’,‘directionality’, ‘belief’, and ‘co-reasoning’, with the emphasis of compassion as the core of moral judgment, not considered as senses or feelings from anon-cognitive perspective that merely reflects a certain physiological level. Compassion is taken as an alternative for practicing sport ethics given that it is in line with the nature of sportsmanship which defines the opponent as an object of respect not an enemy. In order for compassion to meet the requirements for putting sport ethics into practice, a moral motive that would be agreeable to all needs to be presented. Nussbaum suggests 'vulnerability', the common 'essentialism'of human beings, as the one, and compassion can be delivered by understanding it. And all these characteristics can be motivated through the learning of emotions, and programs that enable participants to indirectly experience the pain of the others and foster moral imagination need to be pursued as part ofsport ethics education.
