This study analyzes how population education is reflected in the achievement standards of career-related and interdisciplinary elective subjects in the 2022 revised high school home economics curriculum. The purpose of the study is to propose strategies for implementing effective population education in high schools that contribute to national population initiatives. The contents of a career-related elective subject “Exploring Human Ecology”and interdisciplinary elective subjects “Life Planning and Independence” and “Child Development and Parenting” were analyzed with reference to the key goals of population education. The analysis revealed three findings. First, the achievement standards of “Exploring Human Ecology” provide opportunities for population education by encouraging students to explore careers in child counseling, family life education, and family welfare services in the context of a low-birth rate and an aging society. Second, the achievement standards of “Life Planning and Independence” foster population education by promoting gender sensitivity and equality among students, while helping them develop effective resource management and sound economic habits conducive to financial independence. Third, the achievement standards of “Child Development and Parenting” support population education by fostering positive values and attitudes toward marriage, children, and family life; offering pre-parent education; and enhancing students’ understanding of the importance of public care systems. Because population education in high schools should align with the objectives of the national population education policy, the study also discusses recommendations for population education courses in relation to the objectives of the 4th Plan for Ageing Society and Population.
