      The origin of “着” is “著”, and “著” is interchangeable with “箸”. Therefore, “着” comes from “箸” and “著”. “着” is not only polyphonic and polysemous, but also an ancient and high frequency character. “着...

      The origin of “着” is “著”, and “著” is interchangeable with “箸”. Therefore, “着” comes from “箸” and “著”. “着” is not only polyphonic and polysemous, but also an ancient and high frequency character. “着” has 4 different pronunciation in modern Chinese, which are “着1”[zhuo], “着2”[zhao], “着3”[zhao] and “着4”[zhe], and there are also multi-meanings of different parts of speeches in each pronunciation. When Korean students are learning Chinese language, they always encounter many confusion when it comes to the usage of Chinese heteronymic characters and the characters’ grammatical meanings. This paper will sort out 19 semantic meanings of “着” in modern Chinese texts, analyze the correlation of the different semantic meanings, and finally find out that the underlying semantic meanings of the heteronym “着1”, “着2”, “着3” and “着4” are semantically correlated, and they have a relation called polysemy. The writer of this paper believesthatthesystemizationandexplanationofthepolysemyof “着” will help Chinese language learners master the analytical method of lexical meanings in practical use of language, sort out the laws both general and unique, reduce mistakes and improve the accuracy of language communication.
