This study aimed to develop and validate the Korean Subjective Inequality Scale (K-SIS) for university students. A survey dataset of 551 participants was randomly divided into two samples. One sample was used for item analysis and exploratory factor analysis, while the other was used for confirmatory factor analysis. The results of the exploratory factor analysis indicated that the K-SIS consisted of two factors (i.e.,‘Perceptions’and‘Beliefs’). The confirmatory factor analysis confirmed that the K-SIS consisted of two factors with 11 items in satisfactory model fit indices. Furthermore, the concurrent validity of the K-SIS was established by confirming that each factor of the K-SIS showed significant correlations with status anxiety, depression, and political orientation in the expected directions. Each factor of the K-SIS negatively predicted subjective well-being. The‘Beliefs’factor, in particular, significantly predicted subjective well-being even after controlling for the‘Perceptions’factor. The K-SIS is expected to serve as a valuable instrument for assessing subjective inequality among Korean university students in educational research.
