아카이브라는 극장: 2010년대 이후 한국 퀴어연극과 아카이브의 과제 = Archive as Theater: Korean Queer Theater since the 2010s and Tasks of Archive

국문 초록 (Abstract)

한국 퀴어연극을 아카이빙하는 실천은 기록의 불균형을 야기하는 구조적 원인에 대해 비판적으로 접근하는 아키비즘(archivism)적 개입으로서의 성격을 띤다. 퀴어연극 아카이브는 기록의 부재와 원본의 소멸이라는 불가능성을 해석과 상상의 가능성으로 전치하는 장소가 될 수 있다. 이 글은 아카이브를 원본이라는 유령적 실체가 반복적으로 상연되는 극장으로 이해할 것을 제안하면서, 2010년대 이후 한국 퀴어연극 씬에 나타난 사례들을 통해 아카이빙 실천에 따르는 과제들을 탐색한다.
2장에서는 ‘젠더프리(gender-free)’ 연극을 중심으로 하여 아카이브가 퀴어와 연극을 매개하는 창안적인 시도를 둘러싼 정치적·미학적 맥락을 해석하고 심문하는 장소가 되어야 함을 주장한다. 3장에서는 작품을 퀴어한 시각으로 독해, 변용, 전유하는 ‘퀴어 관객성(queer spectatorship)’의 차원을 살펴본다. 관객은 의도된 말 걸기에 순종하는 대신 자신의 욕망을 투사하며 연극을 퀴어한 것으로 만들어가는 존재이다. 아카이브는 원본을 초과하는 그러한 퀴어한 욕망과 상상력을 어떻게 기록할 것인지 고민해야 한다. 마지막으로 4장에서는 이질적인 신체들 사이의 합성과 배치를 통해 정동적으로 형성되는 ‘트랜스바디(trans-body)’에 주목한다. 트랜스바디는 몸에서 몸으로, 공연에서 공연으로 이어지는 전승을 매개한다. 아카이브는 그러한 창안적인 전승에 주목함으로써 퀴어연극이 진화하는 경로에 대한 인식의 지평을 넓히는 데 기여해야 할 것이다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

The practice of archiving Korean queer Theater has the character of an archivist intervention that critically approaches the structural causes of the imbalance in records. Queer Theater Archive can be a place where the absence of records and the impossibility of the extinction of the original are transferred to the possibility of interpretation and imagination. This article proposes to understand the archive as a theater in which the ghost of the original is repeatedly performed, and explores the tasks that follow the archiving practice through cases that have appeared in the Korean queer theater scene since the 2010s.
Chapter 2 argues that the archive should be a place to interpret and interrogate the political and aesthetic context surrounding creative attempts to mediate queer and play, focusing on the “gender-free” play. Chapter 3 examines the dimension of ‘queer spectatorship’ that reads, transforms, and appropriates the work from a queer perspective. Instead of obeying the intended speech, the spectators project their own desires and makes the play queer. The archive must think about how to record such queer desires and imaginations that exceed the original. Finally, Chapter 4 focuses on the ‘trans-body’, which is formed in an affective way through synthesis and arrangement between heterogeneous bodies. The trans-body mediates the transmission from body to body and from performance to performance. The archive should contribute to broadening the horizon of awareness of the path through which queer theater evolves by paying attention to such creative transmissions.
