다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract) kakao i 다국어 번역

The purpose of this paper is to analyze the relationship between voicing and tone in English and Korean monosyllables and the tonal patterns of Korean longer words under the framework of optimality theory. The underlying hypothesis in this paper is that not only English but also Korean has a voicing contrast (Kim 2000). Both languages show that voicing differences are correlated with F0 (or tone): voiceless consonants raise F0 but voiced consonants lower it. However, there is a remarkable difference in that English shows an intrinsic F0 perturbation triggered by consonantal voicing while Korean shows voicing-tone interactions. This paper presents how to capture a cross-linguistic difference of voicing-tone correlations as well as the tonal outputs of longer words in Korean under the optimality-theoretic framework.
