The subject of this conference Is profoundly relevant to our lives and times, which are characterized by so much inequality. In fact for many people life is a struggle for existence in spite of the enormous growth of scientific knowledge and technology in the 19th and 20th centuries, which should have transformed human existence on this planet. A general world survey shows how many nations and families do not enjoy a life of good quality, and maker us apprehensive about falling standards in the future. The present human situation demonstrates that the development of man has been outpaced by scientific discoveries and he seems imprisoned by his own technology. Whilst many adults are suffering stress effects in our present predicament, some young people are gravely concerned about their quality of life in the future in a world distraught with hatred. full of violence and despoiled by pollution. Regrettably, others live only in the present without any insight or inspiration and find an outlet to their emotional strain by anti-social activity.
