인성교육의 개념적 문제와 과제: 인성과 유사 개념과의 비교를 중심으로 = Conceptual Issues and Tasks of Character Education: Focusing on a Comparison with Related Concepts

국문 초록 (Abstract)

현대 교육 환경에서 인성교육의 중요성이 점차 커지고 있다. 그러나 "인성"이라는 개념은 종종 모호하며, 본성, 덕성, 성격, 인격, 시민성과 같은 관련 용어와 중복된다. 이러한 개념적 혼란은 교육과정 설계 및 평가에 어려움을 야기하고, 인성교육의 명확성과 효과를 저해한다. 본 연구는 인성과 그와 밀접하게 연관된 다섯 가지 개념, 즉 본성, 덕성, 성격, 인격, 시민성 사이의 경계와 교차점을 철학적, 역사적, 심리학적 관점에서 비판적으로 검토한다. 이러한 개념들을 분석함으로써 본 연구는 인성의 고유한 본질과 범위를 명확히 하고, 그 이론적 기반을 강화하는 것을 목표로 한다. 또한, 관련 개념의 보완적 요소들을 활용하면서 인성의 독특성을 존중하는 교육과정 설계에 대한 실질적인 적용 방안을 제시한다. 궁극적으로 이러한 개념적 명확화는 학교에서 인성교육을 더욱 일관되고 효과적으로 시행하는 데 기여한다.

In contemporary educational contexts, character education has gained increasing importance. However, the concept of “character” often remains ambiguous, overlapping with related terms such as nature, virtue, personality, temperament, and citizenship. This conceptual confusion leads to challenges in curriculum design and assessment, undermining the clarity and effectiveness of character education. This study critically examines the boundaries and intersections between character and its five closely associated concepts—nature, virtue, personality, temperament, and citizenship—through philosophical, historical, and psychological lenses. By analyzing these concepts, the research aims to clarify the unique nature and scope of character, reinforcing its theoretical foundation. It also proposes practical applications for curriculum design that respect the distinctiveness of character while leveraging complementary elements from related concepts. Ultimately, this conceptual clarification contributes to a more coherent and effective implementation of character education in schools.
