Thin-wailed steel pipes In bending are vulnerable against buckling caused by compressive stress. However. when It is filled with concrete. the resistance against buckling Increases and It comes to have high strength. high rigidity. and good ductility. This paper attempts to characterize the structural performance of steel-concrete composite system under flexural loading, And. the paper also describes experimental results on the bending behavior of concrete-filled tubular members with respect to parameters affects the ultimate strength and ductility. A simplified finite element model verified by the experimental results was used to carry out a parametric study, The test results and parametric study suggest that the contribution of concrete confinement to the ultimate strength and the ductility is significant.
