교정시설 소년수용자의 자아존중감 향상을 위한 집단상담 프로그램의 효과성에 대한 연구 = Research on the Effectiveness of the Group Counseling Program Focused on the Improvement of Youth Inmates' Self-Esteem

The purpose of the study is to figure out the effect of the specialized consultation program for youth inmates who are housed in A correctional facilities. While various consultation and educational programs have been implemented in correctional facilities, specialized programs for youth inmates have not commonly practiced. This is because attentions for youth inmates were relatively low compared to adult inmates. In addition, research on the effectiveness of the programs has not been a common topic for youth inmates. This article is to present the proper example to practice effective consultation programs that are helpful to enhance self-esteem for youth inmates.
This article compares the difference of level of self-esteem before and after the participation of the specialized group consultation program. The results of this group consultation program show that the general level of self-esteem of inmates youths who participate in this program is improved, which is statistically significant. Specifically, the level of self-expression, self-recognition, and relationship with family and others are improved and these improvements are statistically significant as well. In addition, most inmate youths present a high level of satisfaction. Lastly, it is presented the limitation of this study and the implications for the future study.

국문 초록 (Abstract)

이 연구는 우리나라 A교정시설에서 소년수용자를 대상으로 실시한 상담프로그램의 효과성을 파악하여, 향후 관련 연구 및 유사 프로그램의 운영을 위한 토대를 제공하고 소년수용자의 관리, 상담, 및 교육에 반영할 목적에서 실시되었다. 자아존중감의 향상이 청소년기에 나타나는 발달상의 심리적 어려움 해소 및 교정시설 적응, 출소 후 재범방지에 도움이 될 수 있다는 점에 주목하여 소년수용자의 자아존중감 향상을 위한 전문 상담프로그램을 구성하고 소년수용자 상담 실시 전후의 자아존중감 변화 추이를 비교함으로써 상담프로그램의 효과성을 분석하였다. 전문 상담심리사에 의한 상담 프로그램 실시 결과, 참여한 소년수용자의 자아존중감이 전반적으로 향상된 것으로 나타났다. 자아존중감 측정 척도로는 Coppersmith가 개발한 self-esteem inventory를 번역하여 사용하였으며, 프로그램 시행 전후 효과성은 paired t-test를 사용하여 검증하였다. 전반적인 자아존중감뿐만 아니라 자아존중감의 하위척도인 자기표현, 자아인식, 가족 및 대인관계 모두 프로그램 참여 이후 향상되었으며 이러한 향상이 통계적으로 유의미한 것으로 분석되었다. 이와 함께 상담에 참여한 소년수용자의 프로그램에 대한 만족도도 상당히 높은 것으로 나타났다. 마지막으로 이번 연구의 시사점과 앞으로의 연구방향을 제시하였다.
