근대스포츠의 합리성과 부상의 관계에 대한 이론적 해석: 울리히 벡의 성찰적 근대성을 중심으로 = Theoretical Interpretation About Relation Between Rationality of Modern Sports and Injury: Based on Ulrich Beck’s Reflexive Modernity

국문 초록 (Abstract)

연구목적: 본 연구는 울리히 벡의 성찰적 근대성 이론을 바탕으로 근대스포츠 발전의 핵심인 합리성과 운동선수에게 발생되는 부상(injury)과의 관계에 대해 이론적인 검토를 시도하였다. 이는 부상에 대해 자연과학적 접근 중심의 선행연구에서 벗어난 사회과학적 분석의 시도이다. 연구방법: 이를 위해 본 연구는 부상과 관련된 문헌을 연구의 대상으로 채택하였다. 구체적으로 종목에 상관없이 부상과 관련된 원인을 규명한 선행연구를 중심으로 문헌을 수집하였다. 수집된 자료는 성찰적 근대성 이론을 바탕으로 이론적 재해석의 과정을 거쳤다. 나아가 연구의 타당성을 확보하기 위하여 전문가 집단의 도움을 받았다. 결론: 부상은 단순히 선수 개인의 부주의와도 관련이 있지만, 스포츠가 발전하는 과정에서 불가피하게 발생하는 부작용이기도 하다. 선수들의 기술발전과 장비의 발전은 아이러니하게 부상위험이라는 부메랑으로 선수들에게 되돌아오고 있다. 이는 울리히 벡이 언급하고 있는 합리성 극대화의 부작용에 해당된다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

Purpose: Informed by the concept of reflexive modernity, this article offers a theoretical review of the relationship between rationality, a key to modern sports development, and athletic injury. This goes beyond the predominant natural scientific approach to injury and takes a social scientific view. Method: To this end, this paper adopted academic literature of injury as a main research object. Specifically, literature on the causes of injury was reviewed regardless of sports. Gathered data were reinterpreted based on the theory of reflexive modernity. Furthermore, to secure the validity of research, the analysis was put under scrutiny of a group of experts. Conclusion: As a result, this study shows that injury is relevant to the carelessness of individual athletes, but it is also an inevitable side effect of developing sports. The development of technology and equipments comes back to athletes just like a boomerang, which corresponds to the what Ulich Beck refers to as the maximization of rationality.
