영문리유적 출토 편주형 석도의 사용흔 분석 = Use-wear Analysis of Asymmetry-Boat-shape Stone Harvesting Knives from the Yeongmun-ri Site

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

Five harvesting stone knives excavated from the Yeongmun-ri site were observed both by naked eyes and a microscope to understand their use. The results confirmed the use of the lower blade, as was suggested in the previous study. The specific use was reconstructed as a string attached to the middle finger of the right hand to hold the stone, then the thumb pressing the rice straw against the stone, the index finger pressing down, and the wrist-twisting to nip the ears. Analysis of the side blade revealed developed polish by grass plants contact along the blade and linear marks in the same direction as the blade, suggesting use for cutting multiple stalks of grass plants at once by moving the knife parallel to the blade for post-harvest straw collection or weeding. It was also possible to distinguish between right-handed and left-handed use based on differences in the development of the front and back polish, and a specific use was assumed; to hold the stone knife in one hand, grasp the top of the rice straw with the other hand, and pull the knife towards the user's body for cutting. This analysis confirmed that the asymmetry-boat-shape stone knives were multipurpose tools that could cope with two different tasks in the harvest field.
