The purpose of this study is to verify the mediating effect of Self-efficacy on how Self-differentiation affects the Adaptation of college life. It focuses on the point of view of Self-assertion and Emotional regulation which are belong to the side of inner feelings in Self-differentiation. The study questions are as follows.
First, does Self-efficacy play a mediating role in the relationship between Self-assertion and Adaption to college life ?
Second, does Self-efficacy play a mediating role in between Emotional regulation and Adaption to college life?
To investigate this, we conducted a survey with 400 students at four-year universities in both gwang-ju and jeon-ju city. After all, 322 survey(Male 106, Female 216) questionnaires were adopted for analysis. By using this collected data, we excuted a statistics analysis and a correlation analysis with SAS 9.3 (proc means, proc calis, proc univariate) program to each study questions.
The findings are as follows :
First, Self-efficacy has a complete mediation effects on relations between Self-assertion and Adaptation to college life. That is, Self-assertion via Self-efficacy has a indirect influence on Adaptation to college life.
Second, Self-efficacy has a partial mediation effects on relations between Emotional regulation and Adaptation to college life. That is, Emotional regulation has not only a direct influence on Adaptation to college life but also Emotional regulation via Self-efficacy has a indirect influence on Adaptation to college life. Therefore, it seems that attempting various methods for improving Self-efficacy is effective to the student who is having difficulty in Adaptation to college life due to low level of Self-assertion and Emotional regulation.
In conclusion, if we carry out a counseling and an educational program to the student who has difficulty in Adaptation to college life, Self-efficacy will be increased and then it will be helpful for Adaptation to college life. Finally, the limitations of this study and the necessity of follow up study were suggested.
