With the advancement of OTT services and digital media technologies, consumer patterns have undergone rapid changes. In particular, YouTube Premium offers differentiated features from the adsupported YouTube service, and its user base and satisfaction levels have been steadily increasing worldwide. This study aims to explore the functional motivations of YouTube Premium users, including ad removal, offline storage, background playback, and YouTube Music, and to empirically analyze how these motivations affect satisfaction and continued usage intention.
A survey was conducted with YouTube Premium subscribers, and data from 361 respondents were used for analysis. The results show that certain functional motivations, such as content concentration (ad removal), accessibility (offline storage), multitasking (background playback), and product bundling (YouTube Music), significantly influence satisfaction and continued usage intention. Additionally, satisfaction was found to play a significant mediating role in the relationship between functional motivations and continued usage intention.
This study is significant in that it provides a detailed analysis of the functional motivations behind YouTube Premium, offering theoretical foundations for future research and demonstrating causal relationships between these motivations and user behavior. Furthermore, the findings provide strategic insights for OTT service operators to enhance user satisfaction and continued usage intention, offering valuable implications not only for YouTube Premium but also for strengthening the competitiveness of other OTT services.
