In this study, librarians' discretionary teaching was appreciated and method for improvement were looked for. The study was achieved by references and questionnaire aimed at librarians who work in Daegu and Kyungbuk.
Result of the study showed that there are three problems in discretionary creative teaching of librarians; educational aspect, human resource aspect, facility aspect.
First, Educational aspect. The results indicated that there are difficulties to develop various teaching methods and to encourage students' interest. Second, librarians could rarely have an opportunity to training for creative teaching because they felt it was burdensome. Third, there are not enough materials to support the librarian's discretionary teachings. Furthermore, there is unused space in the library that should be satisfied.
From these results, I will suggest some ways to improve creative teaching, thereby achieving a higher sense of the term.
First, we must obtain new teaching materials for creative class and a variety of new programs in order to grab the students' interest. Next, library training for creative teaching should continue to be conducted. Lastly, we need to obtain materials for librarian's discretionary teaching and establish an information system such as a CD-NET, an original text system, and bibliography information. To achieve this, support from the educations administration is necessary.
