The purposes of this study were (1) to clarity the need, (2) to select the functions and (3) to develop the purposes of technology education in Korea.
The main findings of the study were as follows ;
(1) The necessity for technology education could come from three different phases of need ; ① need for developing industrial society, ② need for meeting the student manipulative activity and ③ need for teaching students the unique domain of knowledge.
(2) The functions proposed for technology education derived from the study were ① productive function ② career exploratory function, ③ consumer function, ④ technology literacy function, ⑤ recreation function and ⑥ practical application function.
(3) The purposes of the technology education envisioned in the functions were to ① provide production knowledge, ② train productive skills, ③ make informed educational & occupational choices, ④ provide exploratory experiences of work and self, ⑤ develop consumer knowledge and use of industrial products, ⑥ understand technical literacy, ⑦ develop worthy leisure-time interests, ⑧ develop creative talents, ⑨ understand the practical application of related knowledge and ⑩ develop problem-solving skills.
