「풍경의 부재 - 김동인의〈마음이 옅은 자여〉를 중심으로」 = Absence of Scenery - Focusing on Kim Dong-in's < Weak-minded You >

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

<Weak-minded You〉 was published in 『Changjo』 from December 1919 to May 1920 in serial form.
The work in which 'I' confess immoral conduct to a friend in the form of a letter is important in analyzing modernity of Kim Dong-in's consciousness. In this work, Kim Dong-in aimed to discover the hidden meaning of 'sex' using a modern confession style. However, in conclusion, this kind of his intention failed to create great outcomes. In the Joseon Dynasty in 1919 with no proper concepts of 'spirit' and 'body' established, strictly speaking, in the beginning of modern times without modern consciousness of equality that was interalized in spiritualization of love, recovery of humanity through discovering 'sex' was a mere huge 'fake'. Then, what is the origin of the failure taking place in <Weak-minded You〉?
In < Baettaragi > and < Potatoes >, and even < A Red Mountain > with the subject of historical reality, as well as his first work < Sadness of a Weak Person >, what he looked at was not 'reality', but 'concept'. Although Lee Gwang-su and Kim Dong-in used Pyeongyang as the background of their works, Kim saw 'the past' of Pyeongyang in which banquets of Gisaengs and the Yangban(the nobility) took place, that is, an ideal concept he loved, while Lee saw 'the present' of Pyeongyang changing modernly. The reason why <Weak-minded You〉was ruined as 'a comedy' differently from Kim's serious intention to describe life problems is the limitation in Kim Dong-in's consciousness.
