스모킹 기법을 적용한 여성 성악 연주복 디자인 연구 = A Study on the Concert Dress Design of Female Vocal Performers Applying Smocking Technique

국문 초록 (Abstract)

클래식 성악 공연 무대에서 연주자의 음악적 역량으로 나오는 청각적 효과와 무대 위 연주자로 집중되는 시각적 효과를 함께 표현하여, 관객의 감성을 만족시키는 공감각적 효과가 복합적으로 어우러지는 종합예술이다. 특히 합창이나 중창과 달리 독창의 경우 관객의 시선은 연주자에 보다 집중되어 연주자의 전체적, 세부적으로 신체 모습이 관객에게 직접적으로 전달된다. 성악 연주는 다른 악기 연주자와 달리 무대 중앙에서 정면으로 선 모습이 그대로 관객에게 보이므로 관객의 집중도가 높아 성악가의 음악적 역량과 함께 그 신체를 감싸는 연주복의 역할이 매우 중요하다. 특히 남성 성악가의 연주복은 연미복 계열로 어느 정도 그 범위가 제한된 반면, 여성 성악가의 연주복은 성악가의 음악적 역량에 대한 기대와 신체 이미지, 그리고 연주자의 자긍심을 높일 수 있는 역할을 할 수 있으며, 타 연주복보다 차별적 디자인이 요구된다.

이에 본 연구는 기존에 여성 성악복의 장식 요소로 다소 사용되었던 레이스, 비즈, 리본 등과 차별적으로 평면적 원단에 조형적 재질감과 특성을 표현할 수 있고 수공예적 예술성을 지닌 스모킹 기법을 활용하여 성악 드레스 디자인을 개발 및 제시하고자 하였다. 이를 위해 성악 드레스의 우아한 이미지, 드레스의 실루엣과 형태, 그리고 스모킹의 섬세한 디자인 개발에 필요한 인스퍼레이션 모티브로 러시아 크론슈타트 성 니콜라스 해군 대성당을 선정하였다. 성 니콜라스 해군 대성당은 서로 다른 종교적, 시대적, 문화적 특징이 복합적으로 담겨 있고, 돔과 아치 형태의 창문. 그리고 외벽에는 반복적 패턴의 부조적 조각이 포함되어 있어 본 연구에 적합한 것으로 사료되었다.

연구 방법은 우선 여성 성악 연주복의 개념과 연주자의 디자인 선호도, 스모킹의 개념과 특성, 그리고 인스퍼레이션 모티브인 크론슈타트 성 니콜라스 해군 대성당에 대해 선행연구와 문헌연구 등의 자료를 파악하여 이론적으로 고찰하였다. 이를 바탕으로 여성 성악 연주복 디자인 개발을 위한 디자인 방향, 컬러, 소재를 포함한 디자인 콘셉트를 도출, 스모킹 디자인 개발, 연주복 디자인 개발 및 제작의 과정으로 진행되었다. 스모킹 디자인은 사방 유연성과 다양한 재질감과 입체감 표현이 가능한 북아메리칸 스모킹 기법을 기본으로 개발하였고, 연주복은 선행연구의 선호도 결과에 따라 롱 드레스로 선정하였다.

디자인 콘셉트 방향은 전체적으로 현대적 이미지와 유려한 곡선적 특징의 표현을 중점으로 하여 플레어, 개더, 터크 등의 볼륨적 디테일로 형태적 특징을, 컬러는 선명하고 풍부한 색감의 카마인 레드, 터키쉬 블루, 로얄 퍼플의 색상을, 그리고 소재는 우아한 광택감과 고급스러운 이미지로 완성하기 위해 실크 트윌과 새틴을 선정하였다.

스모킹 디자인은 1단계 작업이 가능하고 유연성과 격자의 간격 및 배열을 다양하게 적용할 수 있는 북아메리칸 스모킹 기법을 활용하여 해군 대성당의 반복적, 조형적 외벽 조각을 모티브로 9개 스모킹 디자인을 도출하였다. 이들은 드레스의 상의를 위한 얇은 두께와 하의 드레스의 볼륨있는 입체적 효과를 위해 격자 간격과 스티치의 배치 및 배열에 변화를 주어 제작하였다.
마지막으로 성악 연주복 디자인은 실루엣과 차별적인 장식적 요소를 중요하게 고려하였다. 이를 위해 프린세스 라인, 머메이드 라인, 볼 가운 라인 등의 변화있는 실루엣과, 조형적, 수공예적, 장식적 표현이 가능한 스모킹 디자인을 적용하여 6벌의 드레스 디자인을 하여, 실물로 제작하였다. 드레스 컬렉션은 컬러의 톤과 소재는 통일성을 주었으나 각 디자인은 실루엣과 디테일 효과, 스모킹을 모두 다르게 적용하여 차별적 디자인 효과를 제시하였다.

문화예술 분야의 중요성과 관심이 높아지고 있으며 다양해지는 클래식 성악 공연의 문화적 활동이 확장되고 있는 시점에서 여성 성악 연주복의 차별적 디자인에 대한 요구는 높아지고 있다. 이에 본 연구를 통해 도출된 결과인 여성 성악 연주복 디자인은 연주자의 독창적 개성, 차별적 심미성에 대한 표현의 필요성, 연주자에 대한 관객의 시각적, 감성적 만족감을 높일 수 있는 연주복 디자인 확장을 위한 기초자료로 활용될 수 있을 것이다.

It is a comprehensive art that combines the synesthetic effect that satisfies the audience's emotions by expressing the auditory effect that comes from the musician's musical ability on the classical vocal performance stage and the visual effect that is focused on the performer on the stage. In particular, in the case of a solo performer, unlike a choir, the audience's gaze is more focused on the performer, and the performer's overall and detailed physical appearance is delivered directly to the audience. Unlike other instrument players, a vocal performance is the one that shows the audience standing in front of the center of the stage as they are, so the concentration of the audience is high, so the role of the performance clothes covering the body along with the musician's musical ability is very important. Especially male vocalists' performance clothes are limited in scope to the tailcoat series, while female vocalists' performance clothes can play a role in raising expectations for the musician's musical ability, body image, and performers' self-esteem, which is why differential design is required.

Therefore, this study focused on design development of female vocal performance dress applying the smocking technique which is possible to express the formative texture and characteristics on flat fabrics differently from lace, beads, and ribbons, which have been mainly used as decorative elements for women's vocal performance in the past, and handicraft artistry. For this purpose, the Naval Cathedral of St. Nicholas in Kronstadt, Russia has been chosen as the inspirational motivation that is needed to develop the elegant image, the silhouette and form of the concert dress, and the delicate design of smocking. The Naval Cathedral of St. Nicholas was considered suitable for this research because it contains a complex of different religious, historical, and cultural characteristics, and the construction includes the dome, arch-shaped window and the exterior wall with relief sculptures of repetitive patterns.

For the research method, the study reviewed the prior literature on the concept of female vocal performance costumes, the design preference of performers, the concept and characteristics of smoking, and the St. Nicholas Naval Cathedral in Kronstadt which is an inspiration motif. Based on this theoretical background, design concepts such as design direction, color, and material were derived for the design development of female vocal performance dress, and a smocking design and design and production development process of concert dress was carried out. The smocking design was developed based on North American smocking techniques, which is flexible in all directions, and can express a variety of textures and dimensions. The concert dress were selected as long dresses according to the preference results of previous studies.
The direction of the design concept focuses on the expression of a modern image and elegant curved features as a whole, with morphological features such as flares, gathering and tucks in volume details, and rich color palette including carmine red, turquoise blue and royal purple. In addition, silk twill and satin fabrics were chosen to create an elegant luster and luxurious image.
As a result, nine smocking designs were derived with the motif of repetitive and formative exterior wall sculptures of the Naval Cathedral by using the North American smocking technique that is available to work in one step, and applies flexibility and various spacing and arrangement of grids, They were developed by changing the grid spacing, and the placement and arrangement of stitches for thin thickness for the upper body of the dress and the voluminous three-dimensional effect of the dress below.

The design of concert dress emphasised silhouettes and unique decorative elements. Finally, six dress designs were created by applying the vasious silhouettes of the princess line, the mermaid line, and the ball gown line, the smoking design that can express the formative, handicraft and decorative expression. The dress collection gave unity in colour tones and materials. However, different silhouettes, detail effects, and smocking were applied to each of the dress designs to give a differentiated effect.

In summary, there is a tendency for a lot of importance and interest in the field of culture and art to increase. In addition, with the cultural activities of various classical vocal performances expanding, the demand for differentiated dress designs for female vocal performances has been increasing. Therefore, the results of this research will not only satisfy the needs to express original individuality of the performer and differentiated aesthetics, but also the visual and emotional satisfaction of the audience, and it will be used as basic data for expanding the design of classic concert dress.
