소수 민족 언어와 소수 민족 미디어 이용: 러시아 부랴트의 사례 = Ethnic Language and Ethnic Media Use: A Russian Buryat Case

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

The purpose of this study is to examine how bilingualism influences ethnic language use and media language choice of the Buryat ethnic group in the Russian Federation. To answer the research questions, survey questionnaires were administered among 156 Buryats residing in the Republic of Buryatia in Russia. The results suggest that for bilingual Buryats both Buryat and Russian languages have supplementary and complementary functions. Minority language seemed important for social and emotional supports, while the dominant Russian language has more values in public arena. In addition, minority language media appeared to perform only complementary functions due mostly to lack of supply and institutional incompleteness.

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 연구는 이중언어(bilingualism)가 소수 민족 언어 사용과 소수 민족 미디어 이용에 미치는 영향을 살펴보기 위한 것이다. 연구 문제에 답하기 위하여 러시아 부랴트 공화국에 거주하는 156명의 부랴트(Buryat)인들을 대상으로 설문조사를 실시하였다. 연구 결과, 부랴트어(소수 언어)와 러시아어(다수 언어) 사이에는 보완적이거나 보합적인 관계가 있음을 알 수 있었다. 소수 언어는 주로 사적 영역에서 사교적, 감성적 기능을 수행하는 반면, 다수 언어는 공적 영역에서 더 큰 가치가 있었다. 소수 민족 언어를 사용하는 미디 어는 기반이 취약하고 공급이 충분치 않으므로 주류 언어 미디어의 보합적 역할에 그치는 것으로 나타났다.
