The damage caused by the Fukushima nuclear accident caused by the Great East Japan Earthquake suggested a new direction for the global re-examination of nuclear power plant safety and nuclear safety regulations in each country. In particular, the prevention and mitigation standards for severe accident that corresponding to Beyond-DBA(Beyond-Design Basis Accident) have been raised, and new regulatory standards and guidelines have been prepared. In order to successfully cool the core melt discharged to the outside of the RPV(Reactor Pressure Vessel). PECS(Passive Ex-vessel corium retaining and cooling system) including the core catcher, which is a dedicated facility for severe accident mitigation shall be properly activated. In this paper, the environmental conditions of the severe accidents are analyzed as well as the set point for the actuation signal of PECS is evaluated for the reliability of the passive system in contrast to the existing method.
