This study aims to apply development research methodology and develop an agile project management methodology education program with problem based learning for the improvement of project management ability of project managers. The research questions are as follows: First, what are the models and procedures to develop an agile project management methodology education program with problem based learning? Second, Is the education program based on problem based learning developed through this study suitable for acquiring the agile project management methodology procedure?
The study went through three stages in order to solve the research questions. First, suitable design and development methodology was selected by examining research of educational technology. Second, a specific program development model was derived from researches on educational technology and development of an agile project management methodology education program with problem based learning. Third, the program development model was adapted, an agile project management methodology education program was developed utilizing the problem based learning, the program was applied to project managers in Korea IT service company, and the effectiveness of the education program was reviewed.
The research results are as follows: First, in the specific context of eucating project managers of Korea IT services company, the agile project management methodology education program with problem based learning proceeded through five steps of Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evauation(ADDIE) based on the instructional systems development(ISD) model. Second, the educational program developed through this study was conducted for 16 hours for corporate project managers, and then expert evaluation and performance evaluation were conducted to examine the effectiveness of this educational program.
Two conclusions drawn from the study results are as follows: First, the ISD model is an adequate program development model for developing the agile project management methodology education program with problem based learning in the specific context of educating corporate project managers. Second, the agile project management methodology education program with problem based learning is effective for enterprise project managers to acquire agile project management methodology procedures.
The suggestions for follow-up studies based on the conclusions are
as follows: First, in order to generalize the agile project management methodology education program with problem based learning, it is necessary to conduct follow-up development studies targeting various learners. Second, In order to effectively transfer of learning, it is necessary to increase the learning time from the previous 16 hours, and follow-up studies that apply various types of education, such as action learning, for practical application after collective training should be conducted. Third, in order to more accurately verify the practical application of the agile project management methodology through this educational program, it is necessary to conduct follow-up studies to confirm the medium and long-term practical application level.
