우창까 자따까의 미스터리 = The Mystery of the Ucchanga-Jatāka

국문 초록 (Abstract)

이 논문에서 우창까 자따까, 헤르도투스, 그리고 안티고네에서 동일한 에피소드가 포함되어 있음을 발견하고, 그들 자료를 통해서 ‘제국과 서사’라는 제목 아래 몇 가지의 의문점을 해결하고자 한다. 동서양 고전에서 고상한 인물이나 지혜로운 행위의 주인공은 대부분 여성이다. 우창까 자따까(Ucchanga-Jatāka)에 현명한 여인에 관한 에피소드가 있다. 제왕들이 정복하고 침입한 지역에서 그들이 겪었던 경험담과 행위들은 그 지역뿐 아니라 자신의 고향에서도 회자되는 경향이 있다. 그러한 민담형식의 에피소드가 반란 또는 전쟁이라는 상황 속에서 영웅의 일대기에 첨부됨은 국가적 서사(敍事)에 그치는 것이 아니라, 역사, 문화, 그리고 문학의 연결고리를 해결하는 열쇠가 된다. 기억을 자극시키는 에피소드는 역사와 문학 속에 스며들어, 인도, 페르시아, 그리스 등 각국으로 펴져나가서 제국의 서사가 되었다. 서사들의 형식과 내용에서 놀랍도록 유사함을 보이는 이들 문구들에 주목하자. 여인의 <현명한 대답>을 혈통과 관련지어 논의하고, 세 작품의 구조분석을 통해 어느 나라의 문헌이 그 원천인가를 추정 및 조사하고자 한다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

This paper explicates the episodes of Ucchanga-Jatāka and Antigone, and analyze identical parts between them. Upon the basis of this process, this paper tries to suggest several solutions for the issues of empire and epic. In masterpieces of East and West, most characters in grace or of wisdom are female. Episodes from Ucchanga-Jatāka vividly heroins who predominate over male characters. Even under the sovereignty of kings, their episodes were widely spread out through the kingdoms, and people in their hometowns and their nations narrated the heroins’ experiences and deeds. However, their oral folktale-style episodes not only were sung as national epics in their nations, but also worked as bridges of history and culture to link them with other foreign regions because over time, the episodes were introduced to India, Persia, and Greece, and the natives of the locals adjusted them to their history and culture, which finally made them imperial epics. This paper, thus, pays a great attention to the phrases that strikingly exhibits similarities in th forms and the contents among episodes. In particular, choosing three episodes from India, Persia, and Greece and analyzing them, it discusses wise responses returned from women characters, in conjunction with their lineage, and through the plot analyses, tries to detect which is original among them.
