현대 공공영역에서 일시적 공간디자인의 특성과 방법에 관한 연구 = Characteristics and Methods of Temporary Space Design in the Public Domain

국문 초록 (Abstract)

현대 사회는 시간과 속도의 중요성이 강조되고 있다. 이와 더불어 공간의 주기 또한 짧아지고 있으며 ‘일시성’의 개념을 가진 공간들을 흔히 볼 수 있다. 이러한 일시적 공간은 우리 주변에서 볼 수 있는 공공영역에서 흔히 찾아볼 수 있다. 최근에는 행사를 위한 천막이나 텐트처럼 단순히 공간 구획을 위한 것이 아닌 주위 환경과 상호 작용이 가능한 일시적 공간들을 찾아 볼 수 있다. 또한 현재 부족해지고 있는 공공영역에 대한 고민도 이러한 실험적 공간들을 통해 나타난다. 이렇듯 과거와 다르게 다양한 이벤트와 복합적 기능을 수용해야 되는 공공영역에d,; 일시적 공간은 다양하게 활용되어 지고 있다.
이에 본 연구에서는 일시적 공간의 개념을 이해하고 이전과는 다르게 다양한 가치와 요구들이 중첩되는 현대의 공공영역을 지원해 주는 일시적 공간에 대해 알아보고자 한다. 그 방법으로 먼저 관련 문헌 연구를 바탕으로 한 이론적 고찰로 일시적 공간과 공공영역의 개념을 체계적으로 정리해보았다. 이를 통해 일시적 공간을 이동 가능한, 분해 가능한, 그리고 변형 가능한 일시적 공간과 같은 세 가지 개념으로 정리하였으며, 여기서 주로 나타나는 휴대성, 신속성, 확장성, 유연성, 다양성 이라는 다섯 가지 특성을 알아보았다. 이러한 일시적 공간은 현대 공공영역에서 대중이 모일 수 있는 구심점의 역할, 다양한 기능을 지원하는 복합적 공간, 구호 등을 위한 사회적 기능을 하는 것으로 나타났다. 이러한 이론적 고찰을 바탕으로 분석의 틀을 도출하였으며, 공공영역에서 나타나는 일시적 공간들의 다양한 사례를 분석을 통해 현대 공공영역에서 일시적 공간의 특성을 구체적으로 활용하는 방법에 대하여 알아보았다. 이를 토대로 우리 사회의 공공영역에서 나타나는 문제점을 해결하기 위한 방안을 제시하고자 그에 적합한 공공영역에서의 일시적 공간을 활용한 프로젝트를 진행하였다.
본 연구를 통하여 현대 공공영역에서 일시적 공간이 그 특성을 통해 폭 넓게 활용 되고 있으며, 다양한 가치와 요구들에 다양하게 대응할 수 있는 가능성을 탐구 하였다. 향후 일시적 공간의 다양한 디자인 방법이 지속적으로 연구되어 공공영역에서 더욱 발전된 활용 가능성을 기대해본다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

As the importance of time and speed is being emphasized in modern society, the cycle of space also decreases and the spaces with the concept of ‘temporality’ became common. It is easy to find such temporary spaces in the public domain around us. Recently, temporary spaces are doing more than simple space partitioning and temporary spaces such as tent enable interaction with surrounding environment. The concern on the current shortage of public domain also appears in these experimental spaces. Like this, temporary spaces are utilized in various ways in the public domains, which have to accommodate complex functions and various events.
The purpose of this study is the understanding and learning the concept of temporary spaces, which support modern public domains where various values and demands are overlapped. For this, the concepts of temporary space and public domain are systematically summarized by theoretical study of existing literatures first. By doing such, the concept of temporary spaces have been classified into three concepts, which are; mobile temporary space, dismantable temporary space and transformable temporary space, and the five characteristics of them, which are portability, speediness, expandability, flexibility and variety, are examined. It has been found that these temporary spaces are performing the function of a center, where people can get together, the function of complex space supporting various functions and the social function of relief in modern public domains. The framework of the analysis has been built based on this theoretical consideration and concrete utilization method of temporary space characteristics in modern public domains has been studied by analyzing various temporary space cases in public domains. Based on it, a project utilizing temporary space in proper public domain has been executed to suggest a plan to resolve the issues appearing in the public domains in our society.
The extensive utilization of temporary space in modern public domain through their characteristics and the possibility of various responses to various values and demands have been explored by this study. It is expected that various design methods for temporary space would be continuously studied and the possibility of temporary space in public domains would advance more in the future.
