A rapid growth in population puts obstacles in the way of a national development and human life. The population problem is a world-wide issue and a matter of globe. The government of India has been seriously troubled about the problem of population. Also Korea has faced with a serious problem of population. Throughout my twice visiting to India, I made an attempt to examine the current trends of the population education issues in India and compared with Korean situation of the population education activities. These approaches will contribute to a sound national development.
The immediate problem in Indian population education are poverty, ignorance, illiteracy, social inequality, etc. Since 1960, the government of India has taken a serious view of the population problem and owing to abundant financial aids, it has improved teaching material, teaching method, technical knowledge for the population education. But it resulted in failure. The government of India has a gloomy view of the population education. On the other side, with reference to the decrease rate of 32% in its birth rate, Korea seems to have a conspicuous trend of the decrease in population in comparison with other countries. The fact that Korean death rate level reached the levels of the developed countries, was due to the expansion of medical facilities, economic progress and good living conditions. Recently Korean Educational Development Institute took over the work of population education. Therefore the efforts in population policy seemed to be dwindle. But owing to the advancement of mass communication, the national level of the understanding about the population problem is improved. Yet Korean level of the population problem doesn't lead to the developed countries but is superior to the level of India, developing country.
In conclusion, the population education in India produced poor results in contrast to its efforts. On the contrary, the population education in Korea produced good results in spite of its small-scale investments. Therefore we can recognize that the nation-wide level of the standard of living of intellectual level is the key to the solution of the population problem.
