비인지적 능력이 지위획득에 미치는 영향에 관한 연구 ― 청년취업자를 중심으로 ― = A study on the influence of non-cognitive abilities on the status attainment: Focusing on young employees

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 연구는 한국고용정보원의 청년패널조사(Youth Panel) 1~4차 데이터를 사용하여 청년취업자를 대상으로 비인지적 능력이 본인의 지위획득에 미치는 영향력을 고찰해보고 기타 요인들 간의 구조적 관계 및 남녀 간의 차이를 분석하고자 수행되었다. 이를 위해 부모의 사회경제적 지위, 비인지적 능력, 친한 친구 성향, 업무와 교육수준일치 정도, 취업사교육, 해외어학 연수기간, 수능등급을 주요 영향 요인 및 변수로 구성하여 본인의 지위획득 결정요인에 관한 구조방정식 모형 분석을 실시하였다.
분석결과, 비인지적 능력은 수능등급과 마찬가지로 개인의 지위획득에 강력한 정적 효과를 지니는 것으로 파악되었다. 직무일치도와 해외어학 연수기간 역시 본인의 지위획득에 유의미한 직접 효과를 지니는 것으로 드러났으나 취업사교육의 효과는 발견되지 않았다. 또한 부모의 사회경제적 지위가 높을수록 본인의 사회경제적 지위도 유의미하게 높아지는 것으로 파악되어 세대 간 지위이동이 개방적이지 않다는 점을 명확히 드러냈다. 한편, 남녀 집단별 비교분석 결과, 비인지적 능력의 영향력은 남성 집단의 경우에만 강력하게 발휘되고 있었으며 여성 집단의 경우에는 남성 집단에 비해 수능성적이 본인의 지위획득에 미치는 효과가 더 큰 것으로 드러났다.
이상의 연구결과를 바탕으로 본 연구에서는 한국사회에서 비인지적 능력이 지위획득에 중요한 영향력을 발휘한다는 점에 주목하여 인지적 성취지향일변도의 교육생태계에 전면적인 변화가 필요함을 주장했다. 이에 따라 학생들의 비인지적 능력 향상에 기여할 수 있는 학교교육으로의 변화 방안을 모색해 보았다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

This study examines the effect of non-cognitive abilities on young employees’ status attainment, using 2007-2010 Youth Panel data from Korean Employment Information Service(KEIS). It also identifies the structural relationships between determinants of status attainment and how the relationships vary by gender.
The results show that non-cognitive abilities, together with SAT score variable, have strong positive influence on socio-economic status of young employees. However, the other findings show that employment-oriented private tutoring experience did not guarantee better socio-economic status, whereas overseas language course experience and job match do. In addition, those with higher parental Socio-economic status are likely to attain higher socio-economic status, implying the intergenerational inheritance in status attainment. Finally, multi-group analysis by gender reveals that the effect of non-cognitive abilities on individual status attainment is much stronger in the male group than in the female group, whereas the effect of SAT score on it in the female group. These findings imply that the current school environment oriented in improving cognitive abilities among students should be shifted to the direction of enhancing their non-cognitive abilities.
