      Cultivation of dental hygienists' professional ability not only improves the quality of dental treatment but also contributes to the overall advancement of medical field and the improvement of oral health of the nation. In this study, I studied the reality of continuing education program for dental hygienists, conducted by Korean Dental Hygienists Association (KDHA), and examined its problems to come up with the better solutions.
      1. Upon the general information of the respondents, 57% (605 respondents) was unmarried and 58.9% (625) was in their twenties.
      2. To the question of how many continuing education programs they had participated in for the recent two years, 44.7% (474) answered that they had done three to four times a year.
      3. A main content of these supplementary training program was the media development and teaching method upon oral health (52.9%/ 561) while 35.0% of respondents wanted a lecture on implants.
      4. Upon their satisfactory level toward these continuing education programs, most respondents answered mediocre (M=3.55) when they were asked whether they were able to learn new information or find any improvement in quality. To the question of how they learn about the supplementary training program, 42.4% answered through a dental newspaper rather than from KDHA. When they were asked about the best communication method from KDHA, 48.4% (172) prefered mailing while only 16.2% (172) preferred email.
      5. When asked what could be improved, 35.8% answered that they liked to see new and diverse special lectures.
      In conclusion, although getting new information and knowledge was the top reason for these respondents to participate in continuing education programs, the contents of these programs hadn't been able to satisfy such needs. In order to improve this problem, it is necessary to come up with a solution that improves the effectiveness and practicality of the program's contents.
