The purpose of this study was to examine how self-concepts(self-positivity and self-complexity) influence depression. Beck Depression Inventory, Self-positivity Scale, and Self-complexity Scale were administered to 372 college students.
The results were as follows. The low group in self-positivity was more depressive than the high group in self-complexity was more depressive than the low group. Also, the neutral group in self-positivity was different in depression from self-complexity, but the high group in self-positivity was not different in depression from self-complexity. Finally, positive self-positivity and negative self-complexity were significantly correlated with depression.
