The purpose of this study was to investigate injury incidence and associated factors among female dancers according to dance major over a 12-month period, and to provide foundational data for the development of injury prevention and health management strategies. A total of 51 female dance majors from two universities in the metropolitan area participated in this study (Korean dance, n=27; modern dance, n=24). Data were collected using a self-administered questionnaire consisting of 36 items across five domains. The results showed that the mean injury incidence was 4.63 ± 3.76 in Korean dance majors and 8.21 ± 13.79 in modern dance majors, indicating a significant difference between majors. Muscle and tendon injuries were the most common injury type in both groups, while shoulder injuries were significantly more frequent among modern dance majors (p=.027). Overall, 52.9% of injuries occurred during individual practice, with no significant difference between majors. Injury incidence was significantly predicted by dance major and individual practice time (p<.001). In addition, Korean dance majors reported a significantly higher psychological impact of injury (p=.040), and the distribution of injury-provoking movements differed significantly by major (p=.024). These findings suggest that dance-related injuries are influenced by a complex interaction of major-specific technical characteristics, training environment, and practice patterns. The results highlight the importance of developing major-specific injury prevention programs and practice management strategies tailored to the unique demands of each dance discipline.
