상호교차성 페미니즘 관점에서 본 드라마 <파친코> : 교차적 억압이 캐릭터 형성에 미치는 영향 = The Drama Pachinko from an Intersectional Feminist Perspective: The Impact of Intersecting Oppressions on Character Development

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 연구는 글로벌 OTT 플랫폼인 Apple TV+에서 제작한 오리지널 시리즈 드라마인 <파친코>의 여성 캐릭터들에 대해 성별, 시대적 상황, 국적에 의한 차별, 경제적인 위치 등 다층적 억압 기제가 고유의 정체성을 변화 또는 결정짓는 영향에 대해 분석한다. 특히 페미니즘 이론 중 ‘제3의 물결’이라 지칭되는 상호교차성 페미니즘을 토대로 <파친코>의 주요 여성 캐릭터들의 삶을 조망한다. 주인공인 선자와 그 주변의 주요 캐릭터들은함께 처한 디아스포라의 상황에서 견고하기만 한 전통적이고도 보수적인 가치관이 흔들리기도 하고, 때때로주체적인 여성으로 진화를 꾀하기도 한다. 이 연구를 통해 혼란과 충돌의 시대를 살아내는 동안 겪었을 그녀들의 갈등과 저항, 그 결과 공고히 형성해 나갔을 그녀들의 개별 정체성 등에 대해 캐릭터의 행동과 대사 등을통해 모색해보고자 한다.

This study analyzes the female characters in the Apple TV+ original series Pachinko, focusing on how intersecting oppressive structures – such as gender, historical context, nationality-based discrim ination, and economic status – shape their unique identities. Using intersectional feminism as a theo retical framework, this paper dissects the lived experiences of the series’ central female characters.
Within their shared diasporic narratives, traditional and conservative values are frequently challenged, and the characters undergo significant transformations toward autonomy. This analysis highlights their internal conflicts, acts of resistance, and the nuanced identities they construct amid socio-his torical turbulence, as conveyed through their actions and dialogues. Furthermore, this study under scores how Pachinko transcends mere historical reenactment to become a profound inquiry into uni versal concepts of identity and belonging. By portraying the complexities of intersectional oppression, the drama reveals the characters’ agency in navigating these constraints. The three main female char acters demonstrate varied responses to shared oppressive structures, illustrating how individual iden tity formation and existential interpretations diverge even within common socio-political contexts.
Ultimately, Pachinko vividly captures the lived realities of immigrants and minorities grappling with intersectional oppression, offering audiences deeper insights into survival, resistance, and identity formation. This study emphasizes the cultural significance of Pachinko and its contribution to ad vancing academic discussions on intersectional feminism and the representation of marginalized identities in contemporary media
