국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 연구는 고레에다 히로카즈 감독의 영화 <괴물>을 대상으로, 서사 전략을 정보 제어 관점에서 심층적으로분석하였다. 이 영화는 다중 시점, 비선형적 시간 구성, 그리고 쇼트의 배열을 활용한 정보 제어를 통해 관객의 몰입을 유도하고 주제의 효과적인 전달을 구현한다. 영화 <괴물>은 동일한 사건을 여러 등장인물의 관점에서 조명하며, 관객이 각 인물의 정보량에 따라 다양한 지위를 가지게 함으로써 사건의 실체를 주도적으로 탐구하도록 유도한다. 이러한 다중 시점의 서술은 관객에게 등장인물의 제한적 시야를 경험하게 하고, 사건의 본질을 이해하기 위해 관객 스스로 정보를 재구성하고 추론하는 과정을 거치게한다. 또한, 비선형적 시간 배치는사건의 진실을 서서히 드러냄으로써 제공된 정보의 신뢰성을 부여하는 동시에 관객이 시간의 흐름을 재구성하도록 한다. 각각의 시점은 선형적 시간 구조처럼 보이지만, 전체적으로는 비선형적 시간의 배열로 인해 관객은각 인물의 관점과 감정에 따라 달라지는 사건의 의미를 재구성하게 된다. 이로써 영화는 관객에게 단순한 정보전달을 넘어, 서사적 시간의 복잡성과 정보의 신뢰성에 대한 성찰을 제공한다. 더불어, 쇼트 간 정보 지연은관객의 긴장감을 고조시키고 영화적 몰입을 증대시키는 효과적인 서사 장치로 작용한다. 특정 정보를 의도적으로 지연하여 노출함으로써 관객의 호기심을 자극하고 가려진 정보를 강조하도록 한다. 그러나 이후에 관객의 기대와는 다른 정보가 드러나게 함으로써 인간이 가진 편견과 판단 오류를 돌아보게 만든다. 이러한 서사기법은 관객으로 하여금 자신이 가진 정보와 해석의 한계를 인식하게 하며, 타인에 대한 이해와 관점의 다양성을 성찰하도록 만든다. 영화 <괴물>의 서사전략은 인간 관점의 제한성과 그로 인한 오해를 서사적으로 재현하며, 관객에게 깊은 몰입과 성찰을 유도한다. 본 연구는 이러한 서사 기법이 단순히 사건의 나열을 넘어, 주제를 수반하는 강력한 도구로 기능할 수 있음을 강조한다. 이러한 분석은 영화 창작자들에게 실질적이고 구체적인 서사 기법 활용방안을 제시함으로써 창작물의 질적 향상을 도모할 것이라 기대한다.

This study conducts an in-depth analysis of the narrative strategies employed in Hirokazu Kore-eda’s film Monster from the perspective of information control. The film utilizes multiple per spectives, non-linear temporal structures, and the arrangement of shots to control the flow of in formation, thereby enhancing audience engagement and effectively conveying its themes. Monster ex amines the same event through the perspectives of various characters, allowing the audience to as sume different positions depending on the amount of information each character possesses. This multi-perspective narrative invites viewers to experience the limited viewpoints of the characters and reconstruct and infer the essence of the events themselves.
Furthermore, the film’s non-linear temporal structure gradually reveals the truth of the events, en hancing the reliability of the provided information and prompting the audience to reconstruct the chronological flow of time. While each character’s perspective may appear linear in isolation, the overall non-linear arrangement challenges the viewers to reassemble the narrative meaning based on varying perspectives and emotions. In doing so, the film goes beyond mere information delivery, of fering a reflection on the complexity of narrative time and the reliability of information.
Additionally, the delayed presentation of information between shots acts as an effective narrative device, heightening tension and deepening viewers immersion. By intentionally postponing the dis closure of specific information, the film stimulates curiosity and emphasizes the concealed elements of the narrative. However, when the revealed information contrasts with the audiences expectations, it forces a reflection on human biases and errors in judgment. This narrative technique encourages viewers to recognize the limitations and subjectivity of their interpretations while fostering a deeper understanding of others’ perspectives and the diversity of interpretations.
The narrative strategies in Monster effectively illustrate the limitations of human perspectives and the misunderstandings they may create, guiding the audience toward profound engagement and introspection. This study highlights how these narrative techniques transcend simple event pro gression to function as powerful tools for conveying themes. The analysis offers practical and con crete strategies for utilizing narrative techniques in filmmaking, providing valuable insights for The creators while paving the way for new directions in cinematic criticism and storytelling.
