As among various social problems, suicide problem becomes an issue, social interest has been expanded. Especially, juvenile's suicide gives a significant effect to school and local society as well as family because it becomes a serious social problem recently. As famous entertainers' suicides are continued, there are high worries about Werther effect that imitates their suicides. Especially, there are high worries about the negative effect on juvenile, which can be expanded to extreme imitation effect and continual problem. The study subject was selected to know the correlation between variables related with juvenile's suicide factor, suicide thinking and suicide trial and the effect to buffer and prevent risk factors, beginning from social phenomenon and private interest.
The purpose of this study is to define the factor giving effect to juvenile's suicide thinking by grasping the degree of juvenile's stress and depression and suggest the effective factor and correlation between variables with regard to positive correlation between social support and suicide thinking. Following study subjects were established.
First, the study will find out juvenile's developmental characteristic and degree of adjustment to school life and daily life by grasping target juvenile's demographic characteristics such as gender, home economy status, school score and punishment experience.
Second, the study will grasp the degree of depression and daily life stress to know main variables giving effect to juvenile's suicide thinking and define the effect of variable and support source on suicide thinking through the correlation between depression & daily life stress and social support.
Third, the study will find out risk factor and protection factor with regard to juvenile's suicide crisis and define the effect of social support variable on juvenile's depression, stress and suicide thinking and their correlation by verifying the correlation between variables and structural relation.
The study concentrated on 3 clauses of pilot study such as Juvenile's Suicide Thinking, Characteristic of Each Variable with Regard to Suicide Thinking and Pilot Study on Suicide Thinking. In Clause 1 Juvenile's Suicide Thinking, the theory with regard to characteristic of juvenile's suicide thinking and juvenile's suicide thinking and health were considered. In Clause 2 Characteristic of Each Variable with Regard to Suicide Thinking, the study and discussion with regard to juvenile's stress, depression and social support were arranged. In Clause 3 Pilot Study on Suicide Thinking, literatures such as domestic and overseas thesis, journal, research report and major book with regard to theories and pilot studies about suicide thinking were considered.
In study process and contents, dependant variable, juvenile's suicide thinking, was established and as independent variables, subfactors, daily life stress and depression were established. As an intervening variable, social support was established and as control variables, gender, home economy status, school score and punishment experience and then the study model of correlation between variables was suggested. In addition, the study hypothesis consisting of 3 items was established on the basis of study purpose, study need and theoretical discussion.
In order to verify study hypothesis, daily stress scale and Korean version of depression CES-D were used and in order to measure social support, MSPSS(The Multi-dimensional Scale of Perceived Social Support) was used.
Convenience sampling was used for questionnaire. Juveniles registered in the high school of Gyeonggi-do were selected as study targets. SPSS 12.0 statistics program was adopted for analysis. Descriptive analysis, t-test, F test(ANOVA), descriptive statistics, correlation analysis, multiple regression analysis and 3-step regression analysis of Baron and Kenny(1986) were applied.
When analysis result is summarized, first, daily life stress showed statistically significant difference depending on gender, degree of home life and characteristic of parent type. In addition, it was found that male juveniles get more stresses than female juveniles do and daily life stress was higher when degree of home life was low. It was found that when compared to the juveniles, whose parents were alive, the juvenile, whose father or mother was dead, divorced or separated, whose both parents were dead, and who has father-in-law, showed more stresses in daily life. For depression, there was significant difference only in gender. The psychological status that each gender experienced for 1 week revealed that female juveniles were more depressed than male juveniles were. The result verifying the difference of juvenile's social support showed significant difference in the degree of home life. It was found that social support was high when degree of home life approached high level.
Second, from the result of researching correlation among daily life stress, depression, social support, there was a positive correlation between entire daily life stress and suicide thinking. It shows that as stress is high in daily life, suicide thinking increases. In addition, there was statistically significant correlation between depression and suicide thinking. It shows that as depression is high, suicide thinking increases.
Third, for the effect of daily life stress, depression and social support on suicide thinking, it was found that among the factors of control variable, gender gave significantly positive effect to suicide thinking and punishment experience, degree of home life and degree of school achievement gave significantly negative effect to suicide thinking. In other words, it means that the suicide thinking of female juvenile is higher than that of male juvenile and suicide thinking of the juvenile without public punishment experience of school is lower than that of the juvenile with the experience. In addition, it explains that as degree
