This paper studied the aspects of subject matter in Korean Sino-poetry. There were various kinds of materials in Korean Sino-poetry, but many poets specially enjoyed using 'insect, fish, plant, tree, flower'(蟲魚草木花卉) as subject matters. The poets who liked to sing nature took the subject matter as a substitute of expressing the ideal and spirit of themselves and felt beauty in nature, revealing their intellectual curiosity. Due to these reasons, the works which took 'insect, fish, plant, tree, flower' as subject matters were created in a long history. First of all, I examined the historical process how these subject matters attracted the poets' attention. After the compilation of Sikyo˘ng(詩經), the convention of choosing natural materials as subject matter was formed through the process of a great change in Chinese poetic history. It is notable that the poems which sang nature as subject matter were successfully produced in Song(宋) dynasty. In the poetical circles of Koryo˘ and Choso˘n which were influenced from song dynasty, the trend of singing nature became prevalent. To see Korean poetical circles by age, I classified into three stages. First, in Koryo˘ period, the poets preferred reflecting their thoughts and emotions into the object to concentrating on the object itself. In the early Choso˘n, the tendency of the royal family and the noble appreciating flowering plants were spread and many poems singing flowers and plants were composed. In the late Choso˘n, the poets tried to grasp the beauty of particular object itself and its traits rather than the universal principle. The poets in the late Choso˘n showed the tendency to describe objects in detail after a precise observation. As a results, there merged much more serial poems than ever before, which made our poetic history abundant.
