Resistance spot welding has been widely used in the sheet metal joining processes because of its high productivity and convenience. Recently, automobile industries are trying to replace partly steel sheets with aluminum alloy sheets. This paper describes the drawing-joining process of sheet metal pair by die and punch in special mechanical press. The drawing-joining process(or clinching or mechanical press joint) has been used in of metal sheets joining processes because of its simple process and possiblity of joining dissimilar metals, such as steel and aluminium. The static and cyclic behavior of Al-alloy(Al-5052) and steel(SPCC) joints has been investigated. Relationships were developed to estimate the strength of the joint taking into consideration base metal strength properties and geometry of the joint. Fatigue test results have shown that fatigue resistance of the SPCC mechanical press joints is almost equal to that of the spot weld at the life Vehicle body structures are formed by thousands of spot welds and fatigue failure of vehicle structures occur near the welds after driving a long way at a durability test road. The tested specimens are tensile-shear type(TS).
