한국어 학습자의 연어 복잡성 측정 연구 = A Study on the Collocational Complexity of Korean Learners

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

Linguistic complexity, which is widely used to measure the L2 development of second language learners, is measured by focusing on individual words or on grammatical syntactic relationships. Accordingly, we did not pay attention to units such as word combinations that lie on the boundary between vocabulary and grammar. Collocation is a fluency index that differentiates proficient learners from non-proficient learners; therefore, to accurately measure learners’ L2 development, it is necessary to extend linguistic complexity to collocation units. Therefore, this study examines whether the competence of Korean learners to use collocations depends on their proficiency, and ultimately to verify whether collocational complexity can function as an index to measure learners’ L2 development. Collocational diversity and collocational sophistication were assumed as constructs of collocational complexity, and collocational complexity was measured for the collocations used by learners in the learner corpus. As a result of the analysis, both collocational diversity and collocational sophistication were found to increase with proficiency. Through this, it was confirmed that collocational complexity can be used as a valid indicator to discriminate the proficiency level of Korean learners.

국문 초록 (Abstract)

제2언어 학습자의 언어 발달을 측정하는 데 널리 사용되는 언어 복잡성은 개 별 단어에 중점을 두고 측정하거나 문법적 통사 관계에 중점을 두어 측정함에 따라, 어휘와 문법의 경계에 놓인 어휘 간의 결합 관계에 주목하지 못하였다. 어휘 간의 결합 관계를 일컫는 연어는 능숙한 학습자와 그렇지 않은 학습자를 구별하는 유창성 지표로, 학습자의 언어 발달을 보다 적확하게 측정하기 위해서 는 언어 복잡성을 연어 단위로 확장할 필요가 있다. 이에 본 연구에서는 한국어 학습자의 연어 사용 능력이 숙달도에 따라 달라지는지를 연어 복잡성 차원에서 살펴보고, 궁극적으로 연어 복잡성이 학습자의 언어 발달을 측정하는 지표로서 기능할 수 있는지를 검증하는 것을 목적으로 하였다. 연어 복잡성의 하위 구인 으로 다양도와 세련도를 상정하고, 학습자 말뭉치에서 학습자들이 사용한 연어 를 추출하여 연어 복잡성을 측정하였다. 분석 결과, 연어 다양도와 세련도 모두 숙달도에 따라 증가하는 것으로 나타났다. 이를 통해 연어 복잡성이 한국어 학습 자의 숙달도를 변별하는 데 있어 유효한 지표로 활용될 수 있음을 확인하였다.
