시각언어로서의 타이포그래피 이미지 표현에 관한 연구 = A study on typography image Expression as visual language.

국문 초록 (Abstract)

타이포그래피는 원래 활자나 활판에 의한 인쇄술을 의미하였으나 오늘날에는 그 영역이 확대되어 주로 문자로 구성하는 디자인을 타이포그래피로 인식하고 있으며, 문자를 활용함으로서 정보를 전달하는 문자의 언어적 기능과 더불어 비언어적인 조형적 이미지를 전달하는 시각커뮤니케이션의 중요한 수단이 되고 있다.
컴퓨터의 활용과 뉴 미디어의 등장으로 시청각적 기능이 더욱 활발한 오늘날에는, 언어의 상징적 기호체계인 문자를 이용한 타이포그래피도 보여지고 읽혀지는데 있어서 좀더 강화된 시각 전달방법을 요구하게 되었으며, 단순히 정보를 전달하는 차원을 넘어서 시각화원 이미지를 가진 언어체계인 문자를 이용한 타이포그래피도 보여지고 읽혀지는데 있어서 좀더 강화된 시각 전달방법을 요구하게 되었으며, 단순히 정보를 전달하는 차원을 넘어서 시각화된 이미지를 가진 언어체계로서 독창적인 조형적 이미지를 갖추지 않으면 안되게 되었다.
따라서 본 논문에서는 타이포그래피에 많은 영향을 준 근대 디자인 운동과 타이포그래피의 변천 양상, 그리고 타이포그래피의 비언어적 전달기능인 문자의 조형성과 이미지를 형성하고 있는 문자들의 구성작품을 중심으로 살펴보았으며, 또한 최근 문자의 조형적 이미지를 활용하여 새롭게 시도되고 있는 다양한 이미지 타이포그래피 작품들의 시각표현과 형식에 대해서도 연구하였다.
이미지 타이포그래피는 글자의 비언어적, 상징적 의미를 부01한 시각적 표현 형식으로 형태적 이미지를 가지는 문자라는 조형언어를 통해 효과적인 시각 커뮤니케이션을 돕는 새로운 표현 수단이 되고 있다. 이러한 새로운 표현과 형식으로 이루어진 직관적이며 실험적인 작품들을 통해 글자가 단순한 상징기호가 아니라 시각적 형태를 가진 보여지고 느껴지는 적극적인 시각 커뮤니케이션 수단임을 조명해 보고, 비쥬얼 시대와 디지털 영상시대로 나아가고 있는 추세에 따라 시대적 요구에 부응한 효과적인 시각표현형식으로 자리 매김할 것으로 전망하였다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

Typography, at first mean printing types or press by letterpress but its field has been enlarged nowadays so mostly in all designs that compose letter are known as typography. And the linguistic function of letter that delivers information by using letter with its function that delivers un-linguistic formative image become important means in visual communication. More strengthened communication method is required even in typography that uses symbolical sign system of language. And the letter should overcome its simple function of delivering information but complete its original formative image as a language system that is possessed of visual image. Under such cognition, this thesis investigated modern times design movement that influenced the modern typography, change aspect of typography of typography and composition pieces that compose with letters to construct formativeness and image which is un-linguistic function of typographies that applied formative image of letter. Image typography is a from of expression and become anew means of expression that helps effective visual communication through such formative language as a letter that grants un-linguistic, symbolic meanings of letter and have formative image. Through intuitional and experiment pieces that are compose with these new expressions and forms, we can spotlight that letter is not only a symbolic sign but the means of positive visual communication that has visual form and can be seen and felt and that It will settle as a from of visual expression which Is based on the requirements at this times consequently to current trend that progressing to times of the visual and the times of digital image.
