To provide of basic hydrodynamic data to water quality modeling, the three-dimension numerical hydrodynamic models, which were developed by Institute for Resources and Environment of Japan, were applied in Jinhae Bay.
The results of this study could be summarized as follow.
The computed directions of tidal currents by the M₂ constituent are mainly toward the western part of Jinhae Bay and partially toward Masan Bay during the flood flow, and being in the opposite direction during the ebb flow. Tidal currents velocity of the ebb tide was stronger that of the the flood tide. the comparision between the simulated and observed tidal ellipses showed fairly good agreement.
The constant currents, which were obtained by averaging the simulated tidal currents over 1 tidal cycle, showed the presence of a typical counterclockwise eddies between the centra] part of Jinhae Bay and Chilcheon island. Density driven currents were generated southward at surface and northward at the bottom in Masan bay and Jindong Bay where the fresh water of rivers is flowing into.
