우암송시렬(尤庵宋時烈)의 수양 공부론 추의(芻議) ― 도덕 실천의 토대 신뢰와 주재자 확립 ― = Peeping on Song SiYeol’s Theory of Self-Discipline

국문 초록 (Abstract)

우암은 주자학 그리고 율곡학의 정신과 전통에 깊이 공감하고 계승하려는 열망을 지니고, 또한 현실 세계의 바람직하지 못한 모습을 안타깝게 여기고 이를 개혁하려 노력한 성리학자이다. 그래서 그의 이론체계는 현실 혹은 잠재된 것이 발현한 결과에 주목하고, 그것을 이상적으로 이끌 것을 강조한다. 이런 우암의 의도는 直으로 표현되기도 하는, 純善한 근거에 대한 절대적 신뢰를 바탕으로 주체에 대한 명확한 인식과 주재자의 확립을 통해 실현될 수 있다. 존재의 근원인 리는 어떤 작위도 하지 않아서 활동의 주체인 心氣에 의탁하지 않을 수 없다. 따라서 수양의 근거인 성리 등은 최고의 훌륭함이지만, 기질의 영향을 받지 않을 수 없으므로 수양 주체인 심기를 이상적인 상태로 확립해야 한다. 이에 따라 우암은 명덕 개념도 심기나 성리 어느 하나만이 아니라 심성정 모두를 포괄하는 것으로 주장했다. 또한 심이 성정을 온전히 보존하고 실현하기 위해서는 심 자신의 본래 상태를 견지하여 주재자로서의 신분을 엄정히 해야 한다. 그래서 그는 주체인 심의 주재성을 확보할 수 있는 持敬공부, 진위와 시비를 명확하게 판별할 수 있도록 성찰하고 궁리하는 공부를 강조했다.
우암의 이런 공부론은 여타의 주자학자들과 구분되는 특징적인 개념이나 명제, 혹은 새로운 체계 건립 등을 보여주지 못했다. 그러나 그것은 객관 형식에 머무를 수 있는 천리를 인간의 능동성을 통해 실현하려는 노력이며, 주자학 체계에서 마땅히 강조되어야 하는 모습일 수밖에 없다. 물론, 인식과 판단을 위주로 하는 주체가 어떻게 의지를 촉발하는 지 설명하기 어려운 것은 우암 공부론의 근본 문제이기도 하다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

Song SiYeol is a Neo-Confucian scholar who felt sorry for the undesirable aspects of the real world and tried to reform them. So his theoretical system focuses on the reality or the consequences of manifestation of latent things, and emphasizes the idealization of them. His these intentions can be realized, also expressed as honesty, based on the absolute confidence in pure good ground, through a clear perception of the subject and the establishment of the host. So he emphasizes the study that can secure the subject's primacy, and the study that clearly distinguishes true lies and right wrong.
Song’s theory of self-discipline did not show any distinctive concepts, propositions, or the construction of a new system, which distinguished it from any other Neo-Confucian scholar. But it's an effort to realize the fundamental principles that could be stayed in the form of objectives, through human activity, and a shape that should be emphasized in the Neo-Confucian system. Of course, It is a fundamental problem in Song’s theory that is difficult to explain how a subject that focuses on perception and judgment triggers will.
