The main purpose of this article is to evaluate the feelings and recognitions among the so-called ``Abraham religions``(Christianity, Judaism, Islam) by examining the ``Ishmael texts``(Gen. 16:1-16; 17:15-27; 21:8-21; 25:5-11; 25:12-18) in Genesis and investigating the understanding and theology of the Old Testament about Ishmael(ite). Through studying the texts dealing with Ishmael the following points are emphasized. First, interests and cares of God are not limited only to the ones who are selected but also to the ones who have suffered outside the borders of selection. Second, Ishmael and Isaac are both sons of Abraham, and thus they are brothers. They have the same root which enables them to overcome political, ethnic and religious distinctions. Third, the spirituality of ``hospitality`` is required in order to overcome the conflicts of various religious traditions. Hospitality is an act that acknowledges the diverseness of others. It is more active than dialogue as a form of communication, and it enables communion. The story of the Old Testament primarily focuses on the history of Israel, but it also preserves genealogies and stories of other nations. This shows that all people are one family under the blessing of God and among all nations Israel must become the blessing.
