칸트에 있어서 자연미와 예술미 = Natural Beauty and Artistic Beauty in Kant's Philosophy

국문 초록 (Abstract)

오늘날 문화산업의 확산과 생태계의 위기가 가중되면서, 인간과 자연의 새로운 관계 정립이 요구되고, 이로 인해 미학의 영역에서도 생태미학과 더불어 자연미에 대한 중요성이새롭게 부각되고 있다. 이와 같은 시대적 흐름에 비추어 볼 때, 칸트의 자연미와 예술미의 관계에 대한 논의는 중요한 의미를 지닌다. 왜냐하면 그는 자신의 비판정신을 통해 자연의 필연성과 인간의 자유 사이의 양립과 이를 넘어선 조화를 모색하듯이, 자연미와 예술미의 관계에 대해서도 그와 같은 시도를 하고 있기 때문이다. 그는 반성적 판단력과 이것이 지향하는 합목적성에 기초하여 목적론과 기계론 사이의 이율배반을 해결하고, 자연에서 도덕으로 나아가고자 한다. 그의 자연미는 자연을 마치 목적이 있는 것처럼 파악하는 반성적 판단력의 주관적 합목적성에 기초하고 있으며, 취미판단의 무관심성과 목적 없는 합목적성을 통해서 판정된다. 이런 면에서 자연미는 순화된 마음상태로서의 도덕적 감정과 연관되어 있으며, 이성의 이념이 지향하는 도덕(자유, 목적)의 나라로 나아가게 한다. 바로 이점에서 자연미는 사물을 아름답게 '표상'하려는 '목적'을 담고 있는 예술미에 우선한다. 그렇지만 칸트에 의하면 예술작품이 제대로 된 미를 간직하기 위해서는 자연미가 기초로 하고 있는 무관심성, 목적 없는 합목적성의 차원으로 고양되어야 한다. 이것은 취미의 견제를 받는 천재를 통해서 가능하며, 이 경우 예술은 마치 자연처럼 여겨지는 단계가 된다. 자연 역시 천재와 취미를 통해서 아름다움을 드러낸다. 결국 자연은 마치 예술처럼, 예술은 마치 자연처럼 여겨질 때 아름답게 된다. 그러나 칸트의 이와 같은 입장은 여러 사람으로부터 예술미를 자연미에 구속하고, 미를 도덕에 속박하였다는 비판을 받아왔다. 하지만 이글은 이러한 비판이 부당함을, 일차적으로는 칸트의 원전 내용에 기초하여, 이차적으로는 아도르노의 미메시스 이론의 현대적 가치에 근거하여 제시하려고 한다. 그리고 이 글은 이를 통해 칸트의 자연미와 예술미에 관한 이론이 오늘날에도 여전히 중요한 가치를 지니고 있음을 밝히고자 한다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

Today, the industrialization of culture is spreading and the crisis of ecosystem is deepening, and so we cannot help reconstructing the relation between man and nature. This made us turn to the environmental aesthetics and natural beauty. In our considering this situation, it is worth while to discuss the relation between natural beauty and artistic beauty in Kant's aesthetic theory. Because, just as he tried to make it possible that the necessity of nature and the freedom of person are compatible and harmonized with each other by his critical spirit, so he did it in the case of the relation between natural beauty and artistic beauty too. He tried to resolve the antinomy between mechanism and teleology on the basis of the 'reflektive Urteilskraft' and 'Zweckmäßigkeit,' and then proceed from nature to freedom. His natural beauty is based on the 'reflektive Urteilskraft' and 'sujektive Zweckmäßigkeit' which judge nature as if it has an end in itself. And we judge it through the 'Geschmacksurteil' and 'Zweckmäßigkeit ohne Zweck.' Hence the natural beauty is connected with the moral feeling as a purified mental state and shows symbolically us the moral(end, freedom) kingdom. In that point, natural beauty is prior to the artistic beauty which has a purpose to represent objects beautifully. However, according to Kant, art works must be elevated into the level of 'uninteressiertes Wohlgefallen' and 'Zweckmäßigkeit ohne Zweck' on which natural beauty is based. It is possible through genius faced sanctions from taste(Geschmack), and art, in this case, becomes the level looked like nature. Nature shows us beauty through the activity of genius and taste. In the end, when nature and art are felt to us as if nature is art and art is nature, they will have beauty. But Kant's position has been criticized by other people. They said that Kant subjugated artistic beauty to natural beauty, and beauty to moral. I will argue that this criticism is unreasonable on the basis of Kant's texts and Adorno's mimesis theory. And I will prove that Kant's theory about natural beauty and artistic beauty is still important.
