The purpose of the study is to introduce how to teach effectively an freshmen English course that focuses the ways to help the college students improve their English writing skills in English Classes for beginners. As you know, a lot of students have many difficulties to write in English and they have many errors in their writings due to English-Korean differences, Grammar and their little-proficiency in English. This study introduces two kinds of activities which help improve students’ writing skills in the class.
First, one approach is ‘patterned-words and phrases’ which are helpful to students. While studying English writing with patterned-words and phrases. Students can have some confidence and courage to write something in English. And the other is to provide students with peer feedback and teacher feedback. They can also give students interest in English writing, self-confidence and expectations that they can do write in English.
Through the two kinds of ways, college students will be able to improve writing skills significantly and they can have motivation to write in English. Also, both teachers and students communicate well in the classes. The two ways are helpful to teachers and students teach and learn in English classes for beginners.
In conclusion, ‘patterned-words and phrases’ and ‘peer feedback and teacher feedback’ are important to improve English writing skills.
