In his cattle-dealing Rob Roy had a partner in whom he placed unbonaded confidence; but this person, having once been intrusted with a cnsiderable sum of money, made a sudden elopement, which so shattered Rob's trading concerns, that he was under the necessity of selling his lands to the Duke of Montrose, but conditionally, that they should again revert to himself, provided he could return to the duke the sum, he liad promised to pay for them.
