『동문선(東文選)』의 인명설(人名說) 고찰 - 이름과 이름짓기를 중심으로 -

국문 초록 (Abstract)

한문 산문체인 설의 한 유형인 인명설은 이름을 지은 후 그 뜻을 풀이하여 실천하면서 살 것을 당부하는 문학 작품이다. 인명설은 도입과 뜻풀이, 당부의 세 부문으로 형식화되어 있고, 관례의 한 의례로 명자설이 자리 잡았기 때문에 양이 많고 널리 알려져서 인명설을 대표한다. 『동문선』에는 고려후기 <경보설>부터 조선초기 <산은설>까지 약 200년 동안 13명의 명자설 26편, 호설 8편, 자설 3편, 본명설 2편 등 총 39편의 인명설이 실려 있다.
『동문선』의 인명설을 이름과 이름짓기 중심으로 살펴보면, 첫째 자·호가 널리 사용되기 전 본성으로 당사자를 특정한 것과 이름관련 글이 문체로 600년 성행한 것 등에서 이름의 중요성이 드러난다. 둘째, 명자설을 보면 본명에 연관하여 자를 짓고 있으므로 본명과 자는 짝이 되는 이름 유형이다. 셋째, 여말선초 당시 이름짓기 유형은 한자자의밖에 없다는 주장과 달리, 음양과 주역, 도가사상, 모습과 사실, 행동, 소리 등도 활용되고 있다.
넷째, 이름관련 전통적 개념인 항렬자와 피휘, 선호문자, 형제간 순서 등이 인명설의 이름에서 나타난다. 다섯째, 명자설이나 자설 중 한 편도 관례 시에 짓지 않았고 관례보다 인명설이 먼저 정착하였으므로, 관례 시에 자를 짓고 설하였다는 것은 인정할 수 없다. 여섯째, 인명설의 작명 노력과 개명 성행 등을 보면 여말선초 당시 이름에 의한 개운론은 민속적 바탕 문화였음도 확인된다. 일곱째, 인명설은 이름 자체보다 이름의 뜻 해석이 주였으므로 고명사의는 인명설의 핵심이지 이름이나 이름짓기의 핵심으로 볼 수 없다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

Inmyeongseol, a type of Seol(說) which is a genre of Chinese character prose styles, is a work of literature. Inmyeongseol is formalized into three categories: introduction, definition, and request. Since it was established as one of the coming-of-age ceremony, Myeongjaseol is widely known and represents it. There are total 39 works of Inmyeongseol in 『Dongmunseun』 including 26 works of Myeongjaseol, 8 works of Hoseol, 3 works of Jaseol, and 2 works of Bonmyeongseol by 13 people for 200 years from <Kyeongboseol(敬父說)> in the end of the Koryo Dynasty to <Saneunseol(散隱說)> in the early Chosun Dynasty.
The results of research of 『Dongmunseun』 focusing on the name and naming are as follows. First, the importance of name is identified in the prevalence for more than 600 years of Inmyeongseol, referring to a specific person by clan seat and surname before the widespread use of Ja(字) and Ho(號). Second, Myeongjaseol of Inmyeongseol is the type that Bonmyeong(本名) and Ja make a pair because Ja is mostly related to Bonmyeong. Third, unlike the assertion that a type of naming was only Hanjajaeui(漢字字意) in the end of the Koryo Dynasty and the early Chosun Dynasty, Yin-Yang, Zhouyi, taoist thoughts, appearances and facts, behaviors, and sounds were utilized in it.
Fourth, Inmyeongseol of 『Dongmunseun』 are analyzed traditional concepts related to the name such as Hangnyeolja(行列字), Pihwi(避諱), preferred characters, and sibling orders. Fifth, it is not acceptable to be known for naming and explaining of Ja at the coming-of-age ceremony. This is because they did not name of Ja during the coming-of-age ceremony and Inmyeongseol was settled before the coming-of-age ceremony. Sixth, Inmyeongseol"s naming efforts and several renaming have found that Gaeunlon(開運論) by name was culture based on folk in the end of the Koryo Dynasty and the early Chosun Dynasty. Seventh, because Inmyeongseol focuses on interpreting meanings of name rather than themselves, Gomyeongsaeui(顧名思義) is thought to be the core of Inmyeongseol, not name or naming.
