This article aims to illuminate the life and work of Lillias Horton Underwood. In contrast to her huge achievements she has not been well-introduced by Korean Christianity. This is an attempt to commemorate her and her achievements. The role of Lillias Horton was not limited just to serving as a mother and a wife to Horace Grant Underwood. However she dedicated most of her life to supporting her husband"s project and son"s education. These efforts contributed a lot for the foundation of the further development of Korean Christianity in medical missions, education and church planting. In this article the author analyses the life and work of Lillias Horton primarily through her major books and to illustrate and systematize her work according to a threefold mission work; namely, health care, education and evangelism. This article is composed by five parts: first, the life and work of Lillias Horton Underwood; second, the mission of diversity in health care, evangelism, and education; third, her relationship with Empress Myungsung; fourth, the Christian thought of Lillias Horton Underwood; fifth, the issue of orientalism.
