모바일 커뮤니케이션으로 인한 도시 공적공간의 변화 = Impacts of Mobile Communications on the Urban Public Space

국문 초록 (Abstract)

모바일 커뮤니케이션의 확산은 ‘이동 중 연결성’과 ‘상호작용성’을 증대시킴으
로써 공간을 새롭게 구성하고 활성화시킬 것으로 주장되고 있다. 본 연구에서는
공간을 개인공간과 사회공간, 그리고 공적공간으로 나누고 각 공간에서 휴대전화
의 사용으로 어떠한 변화가 나타나는지를 실증적으로 살펴보고자 하였다. 개인공
간에 있어서는 시공간의 미시적 조정이 광범위하게 나타나고 다의적 장소성에 대
한 경험도 상당히 관찰되었다. 사회공간측면에서는 물리적 만남을 확대하여 기존
의 사회적 관계를 보완함과 동시에 휴대전화로 연결된 모바일친구로 인해 사회공
간을 재구성하는 것으로 분석되었다. 그리고 공적공간의 유형에 따라 휴대전화의
이용행태에 차이가 있으며, 기술발달에 따라 공적공간에 대한 수요가 더욱 확대
되며 공간 활력이 증대될 것으로 분석되었다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

Mobile communications is argued to reshape and activate the existing space by increasing ‘mobile communicability en route’ and ‘real time interaction’. This study is designed to make an empirical analysis on how different the use of a cellular phone is in each different space. In this study, the space is divided into three distinct parts including the private, social and public space. First, spatial micro-coordination and experience of polysemy of place are widely observed in the use of a mobile phone in the private space. Secondly, it is found that a mobile phone contributes to extending the scope of social contacts which in turn compliments the existing social relationship. Moreover, a full-time intimate community that is connected via a mobile phone results in reshaping the social space. Lastly, the study shows that the usage pattern of a mobile phone varies depending on the type of public space. The technological development is envisaged to lead to more demand for the public
space while facilitating the use of the public space.
