This thesis studies the plan and design of parking lots in relation to the construction of building projects such as how site selection can be used, as a guide when building the entrance, the scale, the shape, and the parking system. The actual condition of the traffic and parking lots in Korea will also be studied as well as the regulations in the law and its implementing ordinances about parking lots. The standard of the annex parking lots will be further examined by comparing the parking lot statute of Japan which has a similar traffic conditions with Korea. In addition, a rationale about improvement or consolidation on the parking lot statute will be presented if necessary.
To correspond with the aims above, the scope of this study will stay within the following limitations :
1. The foundation of a concept about a parking lot
2. A general consideration about the plan and design of a parking lot
3. Comparison and analysis between the regulations on annex parking lots in Korea and Japan
4. Analysis on the actual conditions and presenting the peculiarities of parking lots in Korea
5. Grasping the problems and peculiarities on the details above, a scheme to improve or consolidate the parking lot statue in Korea will be layed out.
There are 6 steps to our research process :
- Step 1 : Establishing the direction and method of this study
- Step 2 : Researching documents and forming a planning method for the concept of a systematic foundation of a parking lot.
- Step 3 : Establishing the relation between the post intervals and parking efficiency by examining the units of those vehicles using the annex parking lot
- Step 4 : Presenting the problems of annex parking lots in Korea and way to improve them by comparing regulation on the annex parking lot in Korea and Japan
- Step 5 : Presenting the peculiarities of parking lots by analysing the actual conditions of parking lots in Korea
- Step 6 : Synthesizing the results and presenting projects for the future
According to the procedure above, this thesis is composed of 5 chapters summarized here.
Chapter 1 is composed of preceding study of which its tendency, research scope, and study method are related to this thesis, according to the ground and purpose of establishment based on the actual conditions and problems of annex parking lots in Korea which have been found recently.
In Chapter 2, the plan and design of a parking lot has been considered, summarizing abstracts and types of parking lots, the operating range and ground condition, an overall design of parking lot, type of the parked vehicles, the measurement and form of parking, design of a slope way, and designs of all the facilities in the parking lot through architectural records.
In Chapter 3, the problems of the regulation on annex parking lots have been analysed by comparing the law and its implementing ordinances of parking lots in Korea and Japan, and the parking rules in Seoul and Tokyo.
In Chapter 4, the feasibility of the regulations on annex parking lots were analysed, examining the registered numbers of vehicles and population, its relation between the number of households, and the condition and course of operating parking lots through documentary records, the internet, and an on-site inspection.
Chapter 5 has the synthetic result of this study and a project for the future.
