바이오벤처기업의 협력에 미치는 영향에 관한 연구-선호하는 파트너 유형과 주가에 미치는 영향을 중심으로 = A study of the effects of collaboration in biotech firms - Focusing on the type of preferred partners and the impact on stock prices

This paper investigates which types of partners biotech firms prefer among various partners located upstream, horizontally, and downstream of the industrial value chain according to the innovation stage and functional area of the collaboration and analyzes the stock market's evaluation of various collaborations. Data from 913 collaborations entered into by 71 biotech companies listed on the KOSDAQ market between 2001 and 2022 were analyzed to determine the types of partners and their functions in each innovation stage.
Event study methodology was used to measure the stock market's short-term evaluation of collaborative activities by innovation stage and the types of partners in each innovation stage. This study suggests that biotech managers should strive to collaborate with downstream partners, actively consider technical collaborations with horizontal partners in the drug discovery stage, and develop a collaboration strategy that ensures that the outputs of collaborations with upstream partners lead to commercial outcomes. In addition, at the government level, it is necessary to improve regulations and support policies to encourage collaborations between downstream partners.

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 논문은 바이오벤처가 혁신단계 및 협력의 기능 영역에 따라 산업 가치사슬의 상류, 수평, 하류에 위치한 다양한 파트너 중 어떤 유형의 파트너를 선호하는지를 밝히고, 다양한 협력에 대한 주식시장의 평가를 분석하였다. 코스닥 시장에 기술평가 특례 및 성장성 특례로 상장된 71개 바이오벤처가 2001년부터 2022년까지 체결한 913개 협력 데이터를분석하여 각 혁신단계별 파트너 유형과 협력 파트너의 기능을 분석하였고, 사건분석방법론을 사용하여 혁신단계별 협력 활동과 혁신단계별 협력을 맺는 파트너 유형에 따른 주식시장의 단기적 평가를 측정하였다. 연구결과, 혁신단계와기능 영역에 따라 선호하는 파트너 유형을 확인할 수 있었고, 혁신단계와 파트너 유형별로의 협력 활동에 대한 시장의단기적 평가를 확인할 수 있었다. 본 연구는 바이오벤처 경영자는 하류 파트너와 협력하도록 노력하고, 수평 파트너와는 약물발견 단계에서 기술적 협력을 적극 검토하며, 상류 파트너와 협력 시는 성과물이 상업적 성과로 연결될 수 있는협력 전략이 필요하다는 함의를 제시하였다. 또한, 정부는 바이오벤처와 하류 파트너와의 협력이 활성화되도록 규제와지원 정책을 개선하는 것이 필요하다고 판단된다.
