The purpose of this study was to examine the mediating effect of positive psychological capital on the relationship between college students' perceived parenting attitudes and career preparation behaviors. This study used a self-reported online survey of 200 college students in the emerging adult nationwide, and finally, 199 collected data were used to analyze the structural relationships among the variables. The tests used were the Parenting Attitudes Scale, the Positive Psychological Capital Scale, and the Career Preparation Behavior Scale. Based on this, the relationship between the variables was examined, and the correlation between the main variables was verified using SPSS 26.0 and structural equation modeling. The results of the study are as follows.
First, parenting attitudes were significantly related to positive psychological capital and career preparation behaviors, and parenting attitudes and positive psychological capital were positively related and significantly related to career preparation behaviors. This means that the higher the level of parenting attitude and positive psychological capital, the higher the career preparation behavior.
Second, a mediation model was set up to examine the effect of positive psychological capital on the relationship between parenting attitudes and college students' career preparation behaviors. The results showed a partial mediation effect of positive psychological capital on the relationship between parenting attitudes and college students' career preparation behaviors.
This study confirmed that perceived parenting attitudes influence the career preparation behaviors of college students in the emerging adult through the mediation of positive psychological capital. Therefore, this study provided data to understand the concepts and relationships of parenting attitudes and positive psychological capital in order to enhance the career preparation behaviors of college students in the emerging adult, and provided suggestions for further research along with implications for effective career education.
