The expressive style of photagraphy can be defined as the way of describing the outer world and its reality. Thropgh out the history of photography, the notion of reality has changed with the development of the various styles. The determinants of the style of photographic images were discussed in terms of the fundamental factors of visual preception such as depth, color and form. The major method of psychological studies which is collecting perceptual responses makes it possible to develop a model for the receptive process of the visual artworks and to focus on the recipient-centered criticism.
To understand the history of photographic style, the characteristics of the expressive techniques were overviewed in the order of the times. Now a days, the reality of photographic images is not based on the presence of a subject but a subject which can be inferred from psychological responses of a recipient occurred by the properties of style which is composed of the perceptual factors.
