Because the environments of traffic including roads are limited and the cars are increasing continually, the trouble of traffic is gradually getting worse. This make traffic congestion serious and users of the bus have decreased. To solve this problem, the priority policy(median bus lane, BMS, BIS) of public transportation is conducting. The width of road on median bus lane is usually wide because the median bus lane is needed several facilities. So the minimum green time for pedestrian's crossing is long and this make the loss of signal time. The delay of cars and pedestrians is increased due to the loss of signal time.
In this study the improved method to minimize the cycle of intersection and the loss of signal time is suggested. Under various traffic conditions improvement effects of the staggered pedestrian crossing are analyzed and the effective standard of operation for pedestrian crossing is suggested.
A analysis of effect shows that the more flow ratio of minor road is low and flow ratio of left-turn in minor road is high, the number of lane in main road is many, the more improvement effect of the staggered pedestrian crossing is high in the crossing of intersection. Because the cycle of intersection is reduced and the loss of signal time is minimized the delay of cars has decreased. But the crossing time of pedestrian has increased due to the travel time of island. If the offset of pedestrian is considered, the increased crossing time of pedestrian could be decreased.
